A hydraulic gantry crane consists of a complete structural gantry frame, traveling mechanism, lifting mechanism, hydraulic control system, electrical control system, power supply system, and safety protection devices.

Featuring a fully hydraulic drive, it is suitable for various locations without power supply, with its own power system, offering strong adaptability and flexible maneuverability.

Hydraulic Gantry Crane Components

  • Gantry Structure:  A box-type or truss structure spanning the work area, serving as the main load-bearing component of the crane. The legs connect the main beam to the lower support structure, supporting the entire crane and transferring the load to the ground.
  • Lifting Mechanism: A hydraulic motor acts as the power source, converting hydraulic energy into mechanical energy. Large-tonnage cranes often use low-speed, high-torque hydraulic motors to directly drive the drum. The counterbalance valve is a key hydraulic component, preventing uncontrolled descent (stalling) of heavy loads, providing safety braking and precise control.
  • Traveling Mechanism: Responsible for the movement of the entire crane and the trolley. The main traveling mechanism moves the entire gantry along the track longitudinally. The trolley traveling mechanism moves the lifting trolley laterally along the main beam track.
  • Hydraulic System: The core power and control system of the hydraulic gantry crane. It includes a hydraulic power unit and a control valve group. The hydraulic power unit acts as the power source, including the prime mover (diesel engine or electric motor), hydraulic pump, and oil tank. The control valve group consists of multi-way directional control valves, relief valves, throttle valves, etc., used to control the direction, speed, and pressure of each mechanism's operation.
  • Electrical Control System: Includes the control panel, sensors, PLC, and safety protection modules. These components work together to process operating commands and coordinate the actions of each mechanism.
  • Safety Protection Devices: Including overload limiters, travel limit switches, buffers and anti-collision devices, and hydraulic system safety valves. These components work together to ensure the safe and efficient lifting and handling of various heavy objects by the hydraulic gantry crane.

Working Principle

Power Transmission

The engine or electric motor drives the hydraulic pump to output high-pressure hydraulic fluid, which is then distributed to the various actuators via the control valve group.

Lifting Operation

The hydraulic fluid drives the lifting cylinder or hydraulic motor, enabling the vertical lifting and lowering of the hook through the hoisting mechanism. During this process, a balance valve and hydraulic lock provide load holding and fall protection.

Machine Movement

The hydraulic motor of the traveling mechanism drives the wheels/tracks, allowing the entire machine to move along the track. The electrical system coordinates the simultaneous movement of multiple outriggers to prevent tilting.

Precise Control

Through electro-hydraulic proportional valves and sensor feedback, precise adjustment of lifting height, traveling speed, and position is achieved, adapting to the operational needs of narrow spaces and complex terrain.
