5 Ton & 10 Ton LD Type Single Girder EOT Cranes Exported to Pakistan: Cable & Wire Warehouse Case Study

Project Information

Weihua Group exported a 5 ton and a 10 ton LD Type Single Girder EOT Crane to a cable and wire company in Pakistan for use in its warehouse and logistics operation. Both cranes were manufactured, factory-tested, and export-packed at Weihua's production base in China before being loaded into a container for ocean shipment.

The two cranes are installed on separate runways within the same warehouse, where they lift and position cable and wire reels stored on multi-level steel racking — the 5 ton unit handling lighter reels and the 10 ton unit handling larger, heavier ones on an adjacent aisle.

Application: Handling Cable & Wire Reels in a High-Bay Racking Warehouse

Cable and wire reels are heavy, cylindrical, and stored several racking levels up, which puts them out of reach of standard forklifts and pallet jacks once stacked. An overhead crane solves this by working above the racking rather than competing with it for floor space — a natural fit for a cable and wire company's warehouse and logistics operation.

Each LD Type Single Girder EOT Crane travels the full length of its aisle on an overhead runway beam, with the hoist trolley running crosswise to reach reels on either side. This setup allows the operation to:

  • Lift reels directly out of upper-level racking without relying on order pickers or stacker cranes
  • Move reels lengthwise down the aisle to the loading dock for outbound shipments
  • Keep the aisle floor clear for pallet trucks and forklifts handling smaller cartons and pallets
  • Run on a festoon-fed power system along the runway for continuous travel across the full bay length

Running a 5 ton and a 10 ton crane on separate runways lets the warehouse match crane capacity to reel size on each aisle, rather than sizing every runway for the heaviest reel in the building.

LD Type Single Girder EOT Crane: Structure & Key Components

The LD Type Single Girder EOT Crane is built around a single box-girder main beam supported at each end by end trucks, with an electric wire rope hoist running along the bottom flange of the girder to provide lifting and cross-travel motion. Its main components are:

  • Main girder — a single welded box-section beam that carries the hoist trolley and supports the full load path to the end trucks
  • End trucks — mounted at each end of the girder, fitted with travel wheels that run on the runway rails to move the crane along the aisle
  • Electric wire rope hoist / trolley — provides vertical lifting and travels crosswise along the girder to position loads across the aisle width
  • Runway beams and rails — fixed to the warehouse structure, defining the crane's travel path above the racking
  • Electrical control system — pendant, remote, or cabin control, with limit switches and overload protection as standard safety features

Compared to a double girder crane, the single girder structure is lighter and lower-cost to manufacture and install, which is why it's a common choice for warehouse and workshop applications in the 1–20 ton range rather than heavier, high-duty production environments.

Manufacturing, Export Packing & Shipping Process

Factory Production & Testing

Both cranes were assembled and load-tested at Weihua's manufacturing facility prior to shipment, following the company's standard pre-delivery inspection process.

Export Packing

Each main girder was packed in a plywood export crate, while the end trucks and electric hoist trolley assemblies were wrapped separately in protective woven wrap to prevent damage during handling and ocean transit.

Container Loading & Ocean Freight

The crated girders and wrapped components were loaded into an ONE (Ocean Network Express) container using an overhead crane at Weihua's own facility, then trucked out for ocean freight to Pakistan.

Questions fréquemment posées

Why use a single girder EOT crane instead of a double girder crane for a warehouse like this?

For capacities up to around 20 tons, a single girder crane is lighter, less expensive to manufacture and install, and needs less headroom than a double girder crane — an advantage in a racking warehouse where every meter of vertical space is used for storage rather than structure.

Why does this warehouse use two different crane capacities on separate runways?

Sizing every runway for the heaviest reel in the building would mean paying for excess capacity on aisles that only handle lighter products. Running a 5 ton crane and a 10 ton crane on separate aisles matches equipment cost to the actual load on each runway.

How is an EOT crane packed for export shipment?

The main girder is crated separately from the end trucks and hoist trolley, each wrapped to prevent transit damage, then loaded into a container for ocean freight. On arrival, the crane is installed on runway beams fixed to the customer's building structure.
