In August 2025, a leading Mexican steel mill formally inquired about a high-performance gantry crane. The client specifically needed this equipment for the efficient lifting and stacking of steel structures.
In response, Weihua Group developed a customized solution tailored to these requirements. By early October, this project achieved a key milestone at the Weihua plant: a large gantry crane, with a lifting height of 30 meters and a span of 85 meters, successfully passed all operational tests and acceptance checks.
Once the crane is fully operational, it is expected to significantly enhance the client’s operational efficiency and material handling capacity.
After understanding the client's site and work environment, we faced the following challenges:
Weihua Group developed this European double-girder gantry crane in strict accordance with European and American design standards. The crane fully meets customized requirements in structural grade, hoisting mechanism, and material selection. Furthermore, it achieves the highest operating level (A8), making it an intelligent solution for high-intensity, high-load environments. This design ensures superior structural performance and broad operational adaptability.
This gantry crane boasts a lifting height of 30 meters, a main beam length of 85 meters, and a span of 50 meters, enabling comprehensive coverage of a wide operating area and ensuring seamless material handling.
Equipped with a high-performance loading and unloading bridge trolley, it boasts a lifting speed of 50 m/min and an operating speed exceeding 150 m/min.
It flexibly maneuvers through large scrap yards, meeting the demands of high-intensity, continuous operations and improving work efficiency.
Intelligent spreader placement allows for quick switching between various attachments, including electromagnetic chucks and hydraulic grabs. Whether lifting scrap steel or handling bulk materials, it easily handles and extracts materials, covering a full range of application scenarios.
The integrated mechanical and electrical closed-loop dual anti-sway system suppresses load sway in a fraction of a second, even at high speeds, ensuring fast, accurate, and stable positioning and handling. Comprehensive Safety Protection System
The hoisting mechanism is equipped with a real-time height monitoring system. Key components such as the hoisting motor, brake, and wire rope are equipped with ample safety margins. A pin-type overload sensor boasts a five-fold overload capacity, sensitively detecting unbalanced loads and ensuring safe operation.
To meet the steel mill's 24 operation requirements, the equipment's core components (such as the hoisting and operating mechanisms) feature an ultra-long life design, extending the overall service life. Furthermore, the system integrates an internationally advanced communications solution to ensure continuous and stable power supply and signal transmission.
Grupo Weihua recently received a thank-you email from a Mexican customer. The customer reported that their European-style double-girder gantry crane has performed exceptionally well since starting operation. They confirmed the equipment maintains stability and reliability during high-intensity operations in demanding environments.
The customer specifically highlighted the crane's anti-sway performance and fast spreader switching capability. These features have significantly improved their scrap handling efficiency. The equipment fully meets their requirements for 24-hour continuous operation. The customer concluded by expressing their expectation to cooperate with Weihua Group again in the future.
The successful delivery of this high-end intelligent loading and unloading gantry crane is a powerful testament to Weihua's technological innovation capabilities and international manufacturing capabilities, and marks a further advancement of "Made in China" in the international high-end market. Its commissioning will significantly improve the efficiency, safety, and intelligence of the Mexican partner steel mill.
Currently, two subsequent gantry cranes of the same model are in full production. In the future, the three units will operate in tandem, providing the steel mill with continuous, stable, and intelligent material handling capabilities, further strengthening its regional industrial competitiveness.
